The Specter of Frivolous Lawsuits

Injuries occur at workplaces each day. The Illinois court system is designed to help injured parties get compensated for the negligence of others. However, many argue that reform is necessary to counter the number of "frivolous" lawsuits. But if companies are not concerned about the safety of their workplaces, public areas, products, or services, then there is no incentive to ensure satisfaction. The court system must protect individuals from dangers in their everyday life that are a result of negligence or dangerous behavior.

Record Settlement Award in Will County

A Will County man and his daughter won a record $6 million lawsuit settlement as a result of a 2006 motorcycle crash. The man was riding his motorcycle with his daughter when he was struck by a fellow driver. The man has various injuries, including a fractured wrist and ankle. His daughter broke her ankle and severely fractured her left fibia.

The Illinois Department of Transportation estimated that in 2006, 7,907 people were involved in motorcycle accidents. Additionally, overall the riders were predominantly male and between the ages of 21-34.
